Today, I'm excited to share highlights from a recent family portrait session in Mellon Park. I had a blast spending time with this photogenic family! Sadly, when I get behind the camera I get so focused on creating portraits that I occasionally forget names or use the wrong ones. I can't actually claim to be good with names in the first place, but when my interest is capturing portraits, it only goes downhill. (I'm curious if other photographers have the same trouble.) So today, I'm going to introduce you Mike and his family... But only I call him that, the rest of the world knows him as Brain! How did you and your spouse meet? Brian and I met Senior year at Penn State. I showed up at a bar on campus with one of my girlfriends, and Brian was sitting at the bar with his buddy Mike, who was also…

Lifestyle Spotlight – Pittsburgh Family Photographer

Lifestyle Spotlight | Pittsburgh Family Photographer I love meeting new people. I began to realize how much I loved meeting people when I began traveling and teaching English after college. I love that photography offers me a unique chance to authentically capture a glimpse into a family's daily life. Think about it, one doesn't often welcome someone into their home for a couple hours to observe their family life! Although I often arrive as a stranger, I hope to leave as a friend. I can't explain it, but there is something magical about having your family photographed naturally in your home! How did you and your spouse meet? Brian was my brother’s friend when I was a sixth grader and he was an eighth grader. We didn’t really notice or talk to each other until I was a senior in high school and he was a sophomore in college, when we…

A common question I am asked is, "What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?" Well, this family definitely knows the answer - we reschedule within a week or so of the original portrait date. Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions this spring, we had to reschedule several times! It was worth the wait, because in the end we had a beautiful sunrise portrait session in Mellon Park! The best families to work with are the ones that are up for anything and generally enjoy being around each other. This family was both! The whole family was such a blast to work with, cooperative and willing to be spontaneous. We had a really great time together, you can see behind the scenes from our session on the contact page. Plus, their baby girl is especially sweet, pretty, and has the most adorable laugh. Another thing that made this session extra special were…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8K6OUe3bHY Preparing for your Family Photo Session Here are three things to think about when planning your family photo session. First is what type of session would you like to book. I offer two options: lifestyle and portrait. Lifestyle leans more informal, more artistic and less editing while portrait session are just as fun but a little more traditional and more involved editing. The second is location. We can meet at your home, in downtown Pittsburgh, in a beautiful park or on a simple field before sunset. The third thing to consider is what to wear. If you'd like tips on what to wear, please read "Top 10 Suggestions on What to Wear." During your Family Photo Session I consider myself a specialist in creating a friendly environment that lends itself to beautiful moments that I can capture. I feel that a lot of the time, photographers get caught up in…

Family Spotlight: Pittsburgh Family Photographer Today I'm excited to share an interview with a loving wife, caring mother and fun grandmother to three young grandchildren. We enjoyed several conversations prior to the photo shoot covering all the details for her family shoot. It was a real pleasure meeting her and her family the day of the shoot! How did you and your spouse meet? We were IT managers for Cigna Insurance - Kevin in Dallas and me in Pittsburgh. We were both obsessed with a new show called "Survivor" and would chat about it the day after it showed. At some point, we realized we were both single and really liked each other. We had met each other at business functions but had only been friends. Kevin took a personal trip to Pittsburgh, we started a long distance relationship until about 10 months later he moved to Pittsburgh, and we've now…

Our Family's Favorite Paleo Desserts I am sure many of you are all to familiar with the common theme diets seem to follow. At first you are ecstatic at the prospect of losing those fifteen pounds in less than one week, but somehow it never seems to work out... I mean the first day always goes as planned, and you vow that you can live on protein shakes for the rest of your life, but somehow as the days go on, you seem to slip up. Maybe that is giving into the cookies your daughter baked fresh after school, or splurging on that Starbucks after work. I know we have all been there, and believe me, the beating yourself up about it afterwards is no picnic. Recently I stumbled upon a complete game changer, the paleo diet. The paleo diet typically includes lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds—foods that…
