As the leaves change color and the air gets crisp, there is nothing quite like the feeling of fall in Pittsburgh. From pumpkin patches and hayrides to apple orchards and corn mazes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during this magical time of year.
But fall is also a time to get cozy indoors and enjoy the simple things in life. Whether you’re reading a good book by the fire, baking a batch of pumpkin cookies, or simply spending time with your loved ones, there’s nothing quite like enjoying a restful fall day in Pittsburgh.
In this blog post, let’s talk about how to make the most of a beautiful fall in Pittsburgh. From finding the perfect spot to sip a warm cup of coffee to creating a inviting fall home décor.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy a cup of your favorite fall beverage as we explore all the ways to have a enjoyable fall in Pittsburgh.
Fall Bucket List
1. Grab a favorite basket and go foraging in a forest.
2. Visit a fall festival or flea market. Two festivals on our list to visit this year are Seven Springs Autumn Fest and Fort Ligonier Days.
3. Go apple picking and enjoy an apple fresh off the tree. Our family’s favorite farm for apple picking is Triple B Farms in Elizabeth, PA. Simmons and Trax Farms are more great options in the South Hills. While at the farm, wander through a corn maze, pick the perfect pumpkin, and go on a hayride.
4. Invite family and/or friends for a bonfire at your home. Serve your guests hot apple cider with whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and allspice.
5. Grab your favorite fall coffee and head out to the country to enjoy the changing colorful foliage.
6. Decorate your porch for fall.
7. Try a new pumpkin food product from Trader Joes. There are creative pumpkin flavored specialities everywhere!
8. Have a projector? Set it up and watch a favorite movie in your backyard. Stay warm with blankets, pillows, and lots of snuggles.
9. Throughout the weeks, encourage everyone at home to write down things they are thankful for this year. Drop the small notes into a jar. Pull them out of the jar on Thanksgiving and reminisce of highlights from your year.
Cozy Fall Decorating
1. Add earth tones – muted green, amber, and rust to your space – think pillows, throws, table top, tea towels, shelf decor, artwork, rugs, vases.
2. Showcase your favorite baskets with items you have foraged.
3. Find fall stems like sunflowers, dried florals, or tall grasses to add warmth to your space.
4. Burn fragrant candles to fill your home with the scent of pumpkin, amber, vanilla, or orange scents.
5. My five must-have autumn items: pumpkins, gourds, dried foliage, candles, and wooden accents.
Comforting Autumn Recipes
1. Try a new recipe. This year our family is excited to bake these Swedish cardamon buns.
2. Bake pumpkin cookies. My favorite recipe is from Betty Crocker.
3. Prepare a warm spiced apple cider bar.
