What's the Voice?
The VOICE is a celebrated annual photography competition hosted by Click. Through each photographer’s singular lens, voice competition, and collection provides a unique platform for photographers to share real stories. With more than 40,000 images entered each year, it has become one of the most powerful, visual documentations by, of, and for photographers around the world.
Since being becoming a member of Click Pro in 2022, I began entering the Voice Photo Competition. Click Pro is a women’s organization of professional photographers and highly skilled artists whose work demonstrates creativity, vision, and artistic and technical excellence.
The Awards
In my opinion, it’s stressful not only entering a photo contest, but also waiting for the results! On a recent Friday morning, I saw in my inbox an email with a subject line, “Did you WIN? VOICE winners announced!” I held my breath and clicked on the link. I immediately saw a computer screen full of beautiful images from talented photos. As I scrolled through the categories. I continued to hold my breath until suddenly I saw one of mine, a black and white highland cow titled Honorable Mention. One of my images received an award out of 40,000 images submitted!
As I continued to admire the award winning images, I came across two more of my photographs. In total, I received three honorable mentions in the black and white, urban observer, and heritage categories.
I took this image while traveling in Venice, Italy. As my family and I walked along the canals on an early Sunday morning, I enjoyed observing local, everyday life. Venetians truly live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
While photographing a great grandmother enjoying a moment with her great granddaughter at an extended family session, I was drawn to the contrast between their soft and textured skin. I love the love, connection, and protection captured in this image.
