Senior photos are exciting. As a Pittsburgh senior photographer, I love helping you figure out which season matches your personality and the artistic vision you have for your photos. I try to keep things as simple and intentional as possible. Whether we are exploring the colorful murals on the South Side or finding a quiet spot in Mellon Park, I want the process to feel like a creative collaboration rather than a scheduled task. My goal is to capture your genuine self in a way that feels authentic.
For most seniors, the ideal time to schedule a session is during the summer after junior year through early fall of your senior year. This window is truly the sweet spot for storytelling. It offers the most flexibility in your schedule before the busyness of the school year takes hold and ensures we have time to meet yearbook deadlines. Most importantly, it allows us to take full advantage of the long days and warm, golden light that makes your portraits feel so effortless and alive.

Summer Vibes
Summer is a favorite for seniors who want a relaxed experience with plenty of warmth. From June through August, the days are long and the energy is low key. We typically head out during the golden hour to catch the soft, amber-colored light. This is a beautiful time for sundresses and sun-soaked urban streets. If you are a fall sports athlete, summer is an especially great time to schedule. Booking your session before the school year starts means we can create your senior portraits before your practice schedule gets busy. While the Pennsylvania humidity can be a factor, we simply embrace the glow and drink extra water.

Classic Autumn Narratives
When September arrives, the city shifts into those iconic autumn tones that feel so warm. Fall is the perfect season for seniors who love layers and cozy textures like chunky knits and leather boots. The changing leaves in Frick Park or the classic architecture along the North Shore provide a stunning natural backdrop. Once school starts, it is a busy time for everyone, so I always encourage seniors to look at the calendar early. Also note: the peak foliage window is short and books quickly.

Bold and Artistic Winter Sessions
If you are a creative soul who wants to stand out from the crowd, winter offers an amazing blank canvas. While most people choose greenery or autumn leaves, you can opt for the clean lines of the city skyline, a moody cafe, or even the art museum for your senior portrait session. There is something very bold and high-fashion about a winter shoot in downtown Pittsburgh. We stay mindful of the chilly temperatures by hopping into warm shops or utilizing indoor spaces to keep the vibe fun and comfortable. It is a season that feels very intentional and unique for your gallery.

Spring and the Graduation Countdown
Spring brings a fresh energy as the countdown to graduation gets started. Once the blooms return to Phipps Conservatory, everything feels colorful and full of life. This is a wonderful time for soft pastels and celebrating the finish line with a few cap and gown photos. While we may have to schedule around a few rain showers, those overcast Pittsburgh skies actually provide some of the most beautiful and flattering colors for portraits. It is a season that feels like a deep breath and a celebration of everything you have accomplished.

Planning Your Creative Journey
To make sure we have plenty of time to find the right Pittsburgh location and meet your school yearbook deadlines, I recommend reaching out one to two months in advance. This buffer gives us the space to chat about your style and plan the perfect outfits without a rush. Your senior year is a major milestone, and I would be honored to help you document it in a way that feels authentic and artistic. Let’s find a time to get together and create something beautiful.
