I’ve had the joy of photographing this family since their oldest was a newborn, and each time I step into their home, it feels like catching up with old friends. I’ve watched their little ones grow, their laughter fill every space, and their surroundings evolve — including one big move — into a warm, inviting home that feels completely “them.” She has such a natural gift for design — every shelf, every color, every cozy corner feels intentional — and he has the talent (and patience!) to bring her vision to life, no matter how big or small. Together, they’ve created more than just a home; they’ve built a place where love and creativity live side by side. Being there to capture these moments — especially with the arrival of their newest little one — felt like stepping into a beautiful chapter of a story I’ve been lucky enough to witness from the very beginning.
How did you and your husband meet?
We both crashed a bachelor party with mutual friends. His Boston accent hooked me in.
Describe how your life changed once you brought home your newborn.
It’s louder, messier, and busier than ever, but I wouldn’t change it. The love, snuggles, and smiles bring us so much happiness!
What do you enjoy about living in the Pittsburgh area?
I love being close to family and friends that I’ve had since childhood. It’s fun raising babies with the people I was raised with.
What are your family's favorite things to do in and around Pittsburgh?
We love trips to the parks, zoo, sporting events, and outdoor movies and concerts. We enjoy finding new restaurants and coffee shops to try too.
Tell us about your home.
Our home is a true reflection of us! We’ve renovated most of it ourselves with the help of experts when it came to structural changes. We love the open concept we’ve created, the custom built ins, and accents that bring character.
In your opinion, what are the best shops around Pittsburgh to buy decor for your home?
I love Anthropology Home Outlet, Pottery Barn, West Elm, and Target! I also love creating custom DIY pieces to mix in.
Describe a typical day in your life as a new mother with a newborn baby.
I get up before everyone and enjoy a quiet cup of coffee. Slowly the troops trickle in and everyone snuggles on the couch before starting our day. My husband and I divide and conquer to get the kids where they need to be for the day and then begin work. Every evening we have dinner together as a family, and typically a sporting event or 3 to go to. The day always ends with story time.
What is your family's favorite meal to cook at home?
Homemade pizza in the pizza oven! We love experimenting with new toppings and recipes.
What's the best book you've read in the last 12 months?
We created a story book to tell the boys they were getting a new baby sister. Reading it to them and seeing their faces when they realized the book was about them is a moment I’ll never forget. We made the book on Wonderbly.
How did you prepare for your newborn lifestyle session?
I made sure everyone was well fed and that I had snacks on hand!
How did you decide what to wear for your in home lifestyle session?
I typically lean towards neutrals and coordinate everyone’s outfits in the same color family. I like to go for a timeless over trendy style for family photos. Comfort is always key too!
What is your favorite portrait from your lifestyle session?
My favorite photo is the one where I am holding Eleanora and you can see our reflection in the mirror. It is a unique concept and captured a sweet moment between us.
How did you decide to schedule a newborn lifestyle session with Laura Mares Photography?
It was a no brainer; we always schedule with Laura! She makes us feel so comfortable and captures pictures of my family the way I want to remember them. It can be chaotic with 4 kids, but she captures the beauty in the chaos. As a mom, I’m typically the one taking all the pictures. When I schedule with Laura I know I’ll be present in the pictures, and she will capture the best moments and my best angles 🙂
