I had the pleasure of visiting the Alcázar twice—first in March 2024, while my daughter was studying abroad in Seville and attending classes. I returned for a second visit in January 2025, this time with my daughter and her boyfriend. Both trips offered new experiences, but each time I found myself enchanted by the hidden beauty, intricate details, and peaceful atmosphere that make this place so special. A personal reflection
On my second visit, we had a small picnic in the gardens, we enjoyed a simple but delightful spread: goat cheese and fresh buns. As I sat there, surrounded by the beauty of the gardens, it felt like a perfect escape. The gentle sounds of fountains and cheerful chirping of birds created an atmosphere so peaceful that I could’ve easily lost track of time, immersed in the natural beauty around us.
There’s a fairytale quality to the gardens at the Alcázar that reminds me of The Secret Garden. It’s like entering a hidden, walled oasis where the outside world seems to disappear. The seclusion you feel, with the high walls protecting you from the city’s hustle and bustle, gives you a sense of isolation that makes it all the more enchanting. Yet, you’re still right in the center of Seville, as though you’ve stepped into a world that only a few are lucky enough to discover.
