Senior Pictures Spotlight - Pittsburgh Senior Photographer

It was such a joy to spend a warm summer evening with this talented young artist. We had a wonderful time talking about high school, art and future plans.

She even helped me get over a fear. When I asked aren’t you worried about snakes in the tall grass she just smiled and said “Aren’t there only gardener snakes in Pennsylvania?” So true!

Sunset sessions, golden hour light, tall grass are some of my favorite things to find when shooting on location. It it only gets better when you mix in meeting wonderful people!

Read on to hear more about this Mt. Lebanon High School Senior.

Yes, I am from Pittsburgh.

In your opinion, where is the best place to eat in Pittsburgh and what do you order there?
A’Pizza Badamo. The crust is crisp, the amount of cheese is perfect, and many of my fellow art students work there. I order a plain slice.

What is the best thing about your high school?
The best thing about Mount Lebanon High School is it’s many arts programs. Our music, theater, and visual art classes are very fortunate to be funded, and well-taught.

Describe your family with one word.
My family is quirky.

How would your friends describe you?
Artistic, Determined, Argumentative, Active, and Curious

If you took a road trip, where would you go?
Out west. I would visit several national parks on my way to the west coast, which I have never seen.

What kind of music do you enjoy?
I like music with entertaining lyrics. Flight of the Concords has always been a favorite.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?
I love photographing nature, especially animals.

What are your plans for after high school?
I am going to the University of Pittsburgh. After that, I hope to become an illustrator.

How did you decide what to wear to your portrait session?
Before my photo session, I went shopping for both outfits that I wore. I found my grey dress at a boutique called Moxie Cloth. I picked it because it was neutral and had interesting lines and sleeves. The shop owner was very helpful! My floral dress came from Buffalo Exchange, a thrift shop in the South Side. I knew as soon as I put it on that it would work well in a natural setting.

How did you chose Laura Mares Photography?
Laura Mares was recommended to my mom and me by a family friend. She said that this photographer would be responsive to our tastes and preferences.

What was the best part of your senior portrait session?
Laura Mares picked the perfect location and time of day for my aesthetic. Just as we got there, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, casting a golden light over everything. As someone with an interest in photography, I liked that Laura Mares let me see the photos as she was taking them.

What are your favorite portraits from your senior portrait session?
This is my favorite formal portrait, because I think I look fierce. And this is my favorite portrait from on location, which I chose as my casual yearbook photo.
