Newborn Spotlight: Pittsburgh Lifestyle Photographer

When I arrived at the home for this newborn session I smiled to myself when I saw their WVU flags in the yard. I knew that this family was big WVU fans but now I could see the proof! Soon I was warmly greeted at the door and welcomed inside. We spent the next next few hours photographing their brand new family throughout their beautiful home. One of my favorite things about lifestyle sessions is including the special details that make each family unique. For example, this family displayed their love of WVU with an adorable headband on their newborn baby girl. You’ll also see hand crafted items such as their beautiful baby quilt and hand lettered “I Love You in the Morning” sign.

No. I am from Shepherdstown, WV and my husband Zach is from Bridgeport, WV. We have been in Pittsburgh for about 6 years.

Where did you deliver? Who delivered your baby?
West Penn Hospital with Dr. Gallagher
I had a high risk pregnancy because of chronic high blood pressure so my doctors induced me at 39 weeks. We had to be at the hospital at 12:45am(!) and she was born at 11pm so it was a long day. I’m not very patient to begin with let alone when we were waiting to meet our little girl so that was tough for me. It’s what stands out the most other than her arrival itself!

Breastfeeding and learning to function on small naps instead of a full night’s sleep!
Curious
Strong-willed 😛
Adorable
We went with neutral decor with mostly gray and white. I watched The Elephant Show as a kid and could not get the “Skinnamarink” song out of my head when I was pregnant so we went with elephants for any stuffed animals and other accents in the room such as the sign over her crib.

Currently? I’d probably sleep! Haha. Or maybe take a bath. Depends on the day.
Diapers, wipes and an extra change of clothes. Unless a stocked diaper bag counts as one thing and then I’d also add snacks and water for me!
Sleep in more often, make better use of me time and enjoy your food. Now I scarf it down as quickly as possible- never know when someone will need attention again!

I Will Survive! Haha some days that is my mantra 🙂 It was also the Mother-Son dance at our wedding. Zach and his mom used to sing it together in the car and I’m sure we’ll continue singing it with Amelia as she gets older.
We wanted to have more than memories of this special time in all of our lives to look back on as she grows up. We will keep these images forever and someday she will share them with her kids and so on. We also wanted nice, professional photos to frame and put up around our house.
It’s so tough to choose just one! If I have to, I’d say the one of all of us in the nursery where Amelia is smiling – it’s amazing you captured that because smiles were rare at that age but it’s a wonderful photo! Or the one of her by the fireplace looking at the camera.

Getting the pictures of Amelia and our dog, Lilly. Lilly is our first child to us so to see such sweet moments between the two of them makes us happy. Lilly has been a great big sister so far and we know they’ll be partners in crime as Amelia gets older and starts eating solid food to drop on the floor!

Amelia’s middle name Nicole has special meaning for us. Zach and I met in Morgantown. I was in grad school and he was already working full time but we happened to be neighbors. When we started dating, I met even more of our neighbors as he was already good friends with them and we all became very close friends. Unfortunately one of those neighbors, Nicole, passed away unexpectedly a few years ago. It was, and still is, tough to accept that she is gone. She was like family to us and we wanted to honor her memory. We will tell Amelia all about her “Aunt” Nicole as she gets older so she will know what a fun, loving person she is named after.
