Celebrating Dr. Miller's Doctorate

Some journeys take longer than others, but the destination can feel even sweeter because of it. Today, we celebrate Dr. Miller, who recently graduated with her doctorate degree! After earning her undergraduate degree in 2020, a time when traditional celebrations were limited, Dr. Miller was determined to mark this momentous occasion in style. While it may have rained many days this April, nothing could dampen the celebratory spirit of our graduation shoot! Fresh off her doctoral graduation, Dr. Miller popped champagne on the iconic Roberto Clemente bridge, a fitting backdrop for such a triumphant moment.

What do you like about Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh has been so fun to experience! It has beautiful views with all the bridges and rivers. The people have been incredibly inviting and it has made the city very welcoming. Can’t forget the spirit the people have for their sports in this city either. It makes enjoying any game that much more fun when you are surrounded by such passionate fans!

What’s on your bucket list of things to do or see?

In Pittsburgh? I have accomplished visiting the majority of the “must see” sites here, but I have not made it to the Phipps Conservatory and I think that would be at least one more thing I should do here, but I am most definitely open to suggestions. Of my whole bucket list, I have been dreaming of going to Iceland for a few years now. I want to be able to spend a few weeks there and travel the Ring Road and just soak in the culture and all the sites. Hopefully will be able to accomplish this in a few years now that I don’t have to worry about school anymore (yay!).

Tell us about your school and major.

I am pursuing my Doctorate of Audiology while attending A.T. Still University – Arizona School of Health Sciences. Audiology is the field of hearing and balance healthcare. My favorite topics of audiology lean toward balance evaluations and implantable amplification. I enjoy reconnecting my patients to the world around them, whether it be providing some insight into their disequilibrium or opening doors to the world of sound again. It really is my passion and I am so excited to get going in the real world!

What are some highlights from your time in school?

Truly, it has been the people I met throughout the years I spent in school. We were all able to provide support and relief for one another when we needed it and it made school itself so much better knowing we were not alone through it all.

How will you celebrate your graduation?

I am going to have a party with friends and family and just soak in the moment. I have had so much support from everyone in my life throughout my time in school and I could not be more grateful. I am excited to be able to share the moment with them all.

I just accepted a job in Surprise, Arizona at a private practice getting to do what I really love. I did enjoy my time in Pittsburgh, but I am excited to be back in the sunshine!

Tell us about your vision/style for your senior portraits?

I really just wanted to have fun and make the city a part of the photos as well. I feel as though that was accomplished. I got some iconic shots on the bridge with views of the city in the background and it was so much fun.

Did you take any props or incorporate any activities in your senior photos?

I wanted to bring a bottle of champagne for a spray shot and did just that. It was so much fun! I think I was really surprised when actually spraying the bottle. It was great!

What is your favorite photo from your senior portrait session?

Oh my goodness, that is such a hard question. I love them all so much! It was so much fun taking them and I am just thankful for the memories. I suppose, if I had to choose, probably the one where I am walking along the crosswalk. I love how you can see downtown in the background.

I chose Laura Mares Photography because she seemed so real and warm. I felt like she was someone I would be comfortable with and would be able to capture fun, real photos.
