Preparing for your Family Photo Session

Here are three things to think about when planning your family photo session. First is what type of session would you like to book. I offer two options: lifestyle and portrait. Lifestyle leans more informal, more artistic and less editing while portrait session are just as fun but a little more traditional and more involved editing. The second is location. We can meet at your home, in downtown Pittsburgh, in a beautiful park or on a simple field before sunset. The third thing to consider is what to wear. If you’d like tips on what to wear, please read “Top 10 Suggestions on What to Wear.”

During your Family Photo Session

I consider myself a specialist in creating a friendly environment that lends itself to beautiful moments that I can capture. I feel that a lot of the time, photographers get caught up in needing (insert number of pictures) instead of creating an experience that your whole family will remember fondly. I feel that it is more important to take the time to form a solid foundation, and the pictures will reflect that.

Some things that will help on your part would be to get your child excited about the photo shoot. Tell them that you are meeting a friend at (insert location), and that at the end we can go out for ice cream or some other fun treat that your child would enjoy. I emphasize, this isn’t bribery, just a way to associate the session with positive things.

It always helps to come prepared, and the first part of that is coming on time. Plan to come 15 minutes early to the session, so running late will not be a stress factor. Additionally, if you have any family members that are hoping to tag along, do not hesitate to invite them to come along! At this session one of the grandmothers came to help with the dogs and play music her granddaughter enjoys. It helps to have someone around to extra items, or hold the dog’s leash. 🙂

After your Family Photo Session

After your photo session I will create a gallery for you to view and select your favorites. Once I receive your selections I will finish editing your images. It typically takes a week for you to receive your gallery and another week to receive your edited images.
